Common Queries

What ID is needed to be carried? +
Aadhaar card is a must at all dhams. Carry photocopies too.
What is the best time for darshan? +
Early morning is preferable — 5–7 AM — before large crowds build up.
Is photography allowed inside temples? +
Prohibited inside dhams (near the idols) — don't risk it. Photos can be taken outside.
What footwear should I wear? +
Carry easy slip-ons on the specific visit day — you remove them constantly.
Order of Char Dham? +
There is no particular order written in ancient scripts. People do as per convenience. People from the South usually do Rameshwaram and Dwarka first, then the remaining two. People from the North often do Badrinath, Dwarka and Puri before Rameshwaram. Some follow clockwise from Puri → Rameshwaram → Dwarka → Badrinath. Some start from near their home and do clockwise. Some follow the yug order: Badrinath (Sat Yug), Rameshwaram (Treta Yug), Dwarka and Puri (Dwapar Yug and Kal Yug). Overall, completion of the journey is far more important than any particular order. We suggest you do as per convenience — Rameshwaram and Dwarka are often the easiest to do first.

Badrinath — Tulsi mala, Cholai ka ladoo.
Rameshwaram — Holy water, Vibhuti.
Dwarka — Gopi Chandan, Mor pankh, Tulsi, Gomti chakkar.
Jagannath — Nirmalya, Nariyal ki chaal, Khaja (crispy, multi-layered sweet pastry made of wheat flour fried in ghee and dipped in sugar syrup) and sweet ladoo.
How much luggage should be carried? +
Travel light to the extent you can but carry all weather-appropriate clothes.
What if someone falls sick? +
Carry a family medical kit — doctors are there at the dhams but often take time to be available.
Is cash needed or will card do? +
Always carry some cash — ATMs are unreliable or distant from dhams.
Should one hire a guide or not? +
A local temple guide (sevayat/pujari) is worth every rupee — they know the fast ways and the rituals as well.
Where does Lord Vishnu travel according to a beautiful belief? +
Devotees believe Lord Vishnu rests at Dwarka, bathes at Rameshwaram, meditates at Badrinath, and enjoys His meals at Jagannath Puri through the sacred Mahaprasad.
